You
now have the opportunity to take a short trip or part day sail from
Herne Bay's new Harbour on the Spectacular Open Yacht WILDLIFE, as seen
on the BBC Holiday programme and Meridian Television. An experienced local Yachtsman has revived a Herne Bay tradition which has not been seen for over 75 years, when 2 elegant passenger yachts, the 'Heron' and the 'Duchess of York' graced the Eastern Esplanade. WILDLIFE was conceived by Mr. H. M. Dorey of Guernsey for cruising the Channel Islands and the Brittany coast and was designed by Mr. CoIin Mudie from whose drawings came many diverse and beautiful craft such as 'Gypsy Moth', 'Royalist', 'Lord Nelson',and more recently the replica of John Cabot's, ship ' Matthew'. WILDLIFE is only 24 years old but of modern construction in traditional style, with buoyancy throughout. She has a shallow draught for beaching and can reach 10 knots under sail or power. She can carry up to 10 passengers and is perhaps the longest ' OPEN' sailing boat in the world at nearly 40 feet overall. |
